So that lovely snowy afternoon that I blogged about turned into a not-so-lovely week of snow. Now don't get me wrong, I do like snow. I just don't like it when it sticks to the road, turns into ice, and limits my ability to go anywhere.
A couple of months ago we planned a weekend trip to Vancouver. We decided that instead of buying each other Christmas and anniversary gifts, we would just go away for a weekend together. Dave planned to take two days off so we could extend our weekend get-a-way.
On Thursday morning we woke up and did not have power. This made our trip plans more complicated because a) we could not check on the road/weather conditions - we don't have internet on our phones, and b) we had to pack everything up in the dark.
I was feeling some serious cabin fever and was determined not to allow our trip to be ruined by the weather. I had checked the weather up in Vancouver the previous day and I knew it wasn't snowy up there so we just had to make it through Washington.
The roads were a bit sketchy at times but we made it up and it was clear and beautiful evening in the city.
On Friday, we decided to take a little ferry over to Granville Island, which isn't really an island. It is across an inlet from downtown and is under a bridge that heads to downtown. Despite the rain, it is a really cute place to shop and look around, especially since a good portion of it is covered. For those of you with children, they have a whole building called the "Kids Market".
Me with the bridge behind me. I realized on this trip that I really need some new rain gear. I like to be outside but I also want to look cute. I think every northwest girl needs a cute rain trench with some rain boots.
We went into a store called Ten Thousand Villages. I was excited to see the store because I've heard about the company, and it's all fair trade merchandise. The items below were made in the Philippines. If you are looking for a unique gift, you should check out their website.
The rest of the pictures were taken inside the public market. I have to give a shout out to Dave for taking all these pictures.
We
had a small amount of snow Friday morning but it all melted by the end
of the day, which is my kind of snow! This little girl was surrounded by
pigeons which I though was cute.
Stay tuned for more pictures from our trip.
